Anita Dewi Spotted Drinking Coffee From Bare Hands. Internet Divided Again
Anita Dewi, the woman behind the viral Tuku tumbler scandal, is now drinking coffee with her bare hands. The internet has opinions. Again.
JAKARTA — Anita Dewi, the woman at the center of the viral “Tuku Tumbler Incident,” was seen on Friday morning sipping coffee from her cupped bare hands outside a Kopi Keliling pushcart in South Jakarta.
The moment, caught on camera by several bystanders and later reshared by influencer account @JakartaGoesWild, has reignited public debate over class, cancel culture… and the tolerance of human palms.
“This is what accountability looks like,” wrote Threads user @MorallyIntact_03. “She’s embracing humility.”
But others were less convinced.
“We want justice, not gesture,” wrote one Twitter user. “Where’s the tumbler, Anita? Is it in your other hand?”
Eyewitnesses say Anita ordered an Americano from a street coffee vendor, and after noticing the stall had no paper cups, opted to receive the drink directly into her hands.
“I couldn’t believe it,” said 24-year-old college student Rizky Firmansyah. “She looked me straight in the eyes and said, ‘It’s okay, I’ll hold it.’ And then she just... did.”
“I didn’t even know skin could survive that temperature,” he added.
The vendor, known locally as Bang Roni, appeared just as confused.
“She said she didn’t want to be seen with another tumbler. She told me, ‘Let them know I’ve learned.’”
Cultural critics, and freelance anthropologists have begun dissecting Anita’s hand-sip from all possible angles.
Dr. Rahmat Santosa, a sociologist at Universitas Indonesia, described the act as a “ritual of social repentance.”
“In many cultures, consuming from the palm is symbolic. It’s primal. It says: I have been humbled by the masses. I am no longer above you. I am coffee, and coffee is me.”
Meanwhile, PR strategist Mita Lazuardi suggested this may be part of a rebranding arc, likening Anita’s current trajectory to: “Diana’s revenge dress,” and “Will Smith’s apology tour.”
At press time, Anita had not publicly addressed the photo, but sources say is in talks with a local ceramicist to develop a “redemption mug collection”, with each piece handcrafted using reclaimed clay from KRL stations.
Meanwhile, Argi, the original KRL staffer caught in the crossfire, was seen sipping kopi sachet from a reused Aqua bottle near Serpong station.
He declined to comment but nodded knowingly.
